Infrastructure Automation Engineer

At Esri's R&D Center in Zurich, we are seeking a DevOps engineer to enhance our DevOps platform and shape the future of our infrastructure. We encourage candidates from diverse backgrounds, including system administration, systems engineering, and software development.

Our team at Esri Zurich develops a variety of software applications for GIS (Geographic Information System), urban planning, and architectural design, focusing on 3D graphics. Our CI/CD processes involve complex system tests, including screenshot testing, and operate on an in-house DevOps platform-as-a-service (PaaS) that integrates with a global infrastructure, enabling us to deliver high-quality software to millions of users.

Key Responsibilities

As a DevOps engineer at Esri's R&D Center in Zurich, your responsibilities will include:

DevOps Platform Management: Design, test, and maintain the DevOps platform available as a service for software development and deployment. Automate tasks throughout the software development lifecycle using various scripting languages and configuration management tools.

Collaboration: Collaborate closely with developers, IT services, operations teams, and other stakeholders to understand their requirements and ensure effective teamwork.

Automation and Monitoring: Set up and manage continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines for automated deployments. Monitor system performance and health to identify and resolve issues, conducting root cause analysis for production errors.

Security Practices: Recognize security vulnerabilities and implement best practices to maintain the safety and integrity of systems and data.

Qualifications

We are looking for candidates with:

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in DevOps, systems, or software engineering.
  • Proficiency in systems automation and configuration management tools (e.g., Terraform).
  • Experience in designing, configuring, implementing, and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, Jenkins).
  • Knowledge of virtualization and containerization technologies (e.g., VMware, Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure).
  • Strong programming and scripting skills (e.g., JavaScript, Python, Bash, PowerShell).
  • A solid understanding of TCP/IP networking fundamentals.
  • Experience in Windows and Linux system administration.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Informatics, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Work authorization in Switzerland.
