At the Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zürich, we are seeking a highly motivated PhD student to join our research group. As a PhD candidate, you will have the opportunity to work on a project focused on the mode of action of bioactive compounds at the molecular, cellular and organismal level.
Project BackgroundOur research group has discovered that omphalotin A, a ribosomally synthesized dodecapeptide macrocycle, exhibits immunomodulatory activity reminiscent of cyclosporin A. This structural similarity suggests that omphalotin A targets a different intracellular protein of immune cells. We propose to identify this target protein using two different proteomics approaches.
The results of our experiments will provide insight into the mode of action of an immunomodulatory fungal peptide natural product. This knowledge may contribute to the development of a novel immunomodulatory drug based on the omphalotin A scaffold or its target.
