PhD Researcher Position in Raman Spectroscopy for Biomarker Detection in Wounds

About the Project

Empa's Nanomaterials Spectroscopy and Imaging group is seeking a highly motivated PhD researcher to work on a project focused on demonstrating Raman spectroscopy as a rapid, noninvasive, and label-free omics technology enabling metabolic profiling and biomarker detection in wound exudates.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will use Raman spectroscopy to identify protein and metabolite biomarkers for different phases of wound healing and define when presence of specific proteins/metabolites can indicate initiation of chronic wounds. Preparation of artificial wound exudates and measurements on wound exudates from patients will also be involved. The candidate will combine Raman spectroscopy with cutting-edge machine learning approaches and statistical analysis to enable timely identification of high risk for chronic wound formation.

Requirements

We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with a strong background in physics, chemistry or related field who wants to pursue cutting-edge research oriented towards direct clinical applications. A Master's degree in physics/chemistry or a related field is required, along with prior experience in statistical analysis and machine learning. Excellent English skills are also necessary for the project.
