Job Title: Midwife

We are seeking a skilled and experienced midwife to join our team at Medecins Sans Frontieres. As a midwife, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality maternal and reproductive health care to women and newborns in challenging and often unstable environments.

Responsibilities:
  • Plan, organize, and implement sexual and reproductive health activities, ensuring that all pregnant women and newborns receive the necessary care and support.
  • Assist field doctors and nurses as needed, providing expertise in normal and complicated deliveries, pre- and post-delivery care, and maternal health management.
  • Manage, train, and supervise local midwives and the maternity team, ensuring that they have the necessary skills and knowledge to provide high-quality care.
  • Ensure that all pregnant women and newborns are referred to the Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI), promoting the health and well-being of mothers and children.
  • Set up maternity departments in new health centers/hospitals, establishing a strong foundation for maternal and reproductive health care.
  • Care for survivors of sexual violence, providing sensitive and compassionate support to those in need.
  • Work with community birth attendants to ensure safe community birthing practices, promoting healthy outcomes for mothers and newborns.
  • Supervise the distribution of drugs, track consumption patterns, and monitor inventories, ensuring that all necessary resources are available to support maternal and reproductive health care.
  • Supervise administrative procedures and documents, analyzing routine data for monitoring purposes and ensuring that all necessary records are kept up to date.

Requirements:
  • Qualification as a registered midwife.
  • At least two years of professional experience as a midwife.
  • Recent clinical experience (at least six months within the last 24 months).
  • Experience of labour wards and difficult case management.
  • Willingness to work in all kinds of contexts worldwide, including unstable areas.
  • IT skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Fluency in English and/or French.
  • Commitment to MSF's work and values.
  • Adaptable and able to work in a multicultural team.
  • Flexible and able to manage stress.
  • Available for a minimum of six months.
