About the Role

We are seeking an Electronics/Reliability Engineer to join our BE-CEM group and contribute to the development of SAMbuCa, a high-performance Sensors Acquisition and Motion Control system.

This role involves working closely with the team to define reliability requirements, perform detailed failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA), and conduct safety assessments of the complete system.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing and optimizing electronic boards and systems to meet rigorous performance and durability demands.
  • Conducting thermal simulations using Ansys to address thermal challenges and ensure optimal operation under varied conditions.
  • Performing reliability simulations, failure prediction modelling, and environmental testing to validate designs.
  • Developing and analyzing environmental and stress test requirements, defining test scope and coverage, and ensuring comprehensive testing to meet reliability objectives.
  • Conducting detailed data analysis and creating clear reports to inform design improvements and ensure compliance with requirements.
  • Establishing and implementing reliability guidelines for pre-production and production phases.
  • Monitoring system performance during operation and refining designs based on real-world data.

Requirements

To be successful in this position, you must have:

  • Electronic Circuit Design and Analysis (Analog and Digital) skills.
  • Experience in Environmental Testing and Analysis.
  • Strong background in Reliability Engineering.
  • Familiarity with Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
  • Signal Processing and Data Acquisition expertise.
  • Thermal Management and Simulation knowledge.
  • Reliability modelling skills (Isograph, FTA).
  • Project Management and Cross-functional Collaboration experience.
  • Embedded Systems Design capabilities.

We offer a competitive salary ranging between 6287 and 6911 Swiss Francs per month (net of tax). Additionally, you will receive comprehensive health insurance for yourself, your spouse, and children, as well as membership of the CERN Pension Fund. Depending on your individual circumstances, you may also be eligible for installation grants, family allowances, and payment of travel expenses at the beginning and end of contract.

We also provide 30 days of paid leave per year, on-the-job and formal training at CERN, as well as in-house language courses for English and/or French.
