Job Title: Data Science Intern for Crisis Risk Analysis

United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Data Science Intern to support the Crisis Bureau's Risk Anticipation Hub in its efforts to improve crisis risk analysis capabilities.

About the Role

The successful candidate will assist in developing statistical and machine learning models to support multi-factor and integrated risk analysis. They will also support the design, adaptation, and deployment of natural language processing (NLP) applications to open-source text data, such as social media and news media articles.

Responsibilities
  • Develop statistical and machine learning models to support crisis risk analysis
  • Design, adapt, and deploy NLP applications to open-source text data
  • Assist in developing new approaches to detecting events and trends within various real-time and open-source data
  • Support iterative development and testing of models with end-users
  • Help develop and build efficient data pipelines in cloud-based platforms
Requirements
  • Enrolled in a postgraduate degree program in data science, computer science, or a related field
  • Proficient in programming languages such as Python, PySpark, and R
  • Knowledge of data science and machine learning applications development and operation
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
