Software Engineer for Accelerator Beam Transfer Controls

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Software Engineer to join our team at CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research. As a member of our Accelerator Beam Transfer (ABT) group, you will play a key role in the design, development, and maintenance of control systems and software for injection and extraction related equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Take over existing control software, including the fast pulsed magnets timing system software, and continue to deploy and maintain it.
  • Design and develop an upgraded system to adapt to new requirements and evolution of CERN controls technologies.
  • Provide more clever controls software to improve diagnosis and automation of beam transfer controls.
  • Collaborate with equipment experts to capture requirements and develop algorithms to distinguish faults that can be auto-reset from those needing expert intervention.
Requirements
  • Good knowledge of programming techniques and object-oriented languages (C++, Python).
  • Experience with re-use, refactoring, integration, and porting of existing software.
  • Development of software for embedded systems and real-time systems with/without OS.
  • Development on Linux.
  • Some background knowledge in electronics and/or equipment controls would be an asset.
  • Fluent in English, with the ability to work in French being an advantage.
