CERN is looking for a Research Facility Design Expert to join our team. As a member of our research facility design group, you will be responsible for designing and developing high-pressure rinsing systems for superconducting radio-frequency (SRF) cavities.
This is an exciting opportunity to work on a cutting-edge project that requires innovative solutions and expertise in research facility design. You will collaborate with our team of scientists, engineers, and technical experts to assess and develop required processes, conceptualise and design equipment, and ensure compliance with EC machinery directive and sound engineering practice.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop high-pressure rinsing systems for SRF cavities;
- Collaborate with CERN scientists, engineers, and technical experts to assess and develop required processes;
- Conceptualise and design equipment, carrying out necessary structural calculations and optimisation of performance;
- Develop equipment adapted to operation in cleanroom environments, based on existing industrial solutions;
- Model, size, and source equipment in compliance with EC machinery directive and sound engineering practice;
- Collaborate with external suppliers for selection of components, structures, and sub-systems;
- Work collaboratively with CERN engineers and designers to produce detailed design drawings and calculation notes.
About the Project
The project involves the design and development of a state-of-the-art motion-controlled high-pressure rinsing system for SRF cavities, requiring fully automated generation and distribution of ultra-pure water, motion-controlled high-pressure rinsing, vacuum and solvent-based drying, and operation under inert atmospheres and ultra-clean conditions.
Requirements
- A professional background in Mechanical Engineering or a related field;
- A Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience, or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience;
- Nationality: Be a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State;
- No prior CERN fellow or graduate contract.
