The Role:
We are seeking an Xenobiotic Biotransformation Specialist to contribute to diverse and world-leading scientific projects within our Soil Health Research team. This position involves developing non-target analysis to identify putative metabolites of research compounds and ensuring compliance of HSE standards. Key responsibilities also include communicating effectively with colleagues and stakeholders, promoting a new approach, and providing regular technical updates.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implementing a new fast and high-throughput testing platform co-developed by EAWAG and the Syngenta Soil Health Research Center
- Carrying out validation programs and evaluating biotransformation potential of agrochemical research molecules
- Working with chemistry research project teams and engaging with stakeholders to promote the new approach
- Ensuring smooth laboratory operations and comprehensive documentation of methods and results
Requirements:
- PhD in Applied Environmental Sciences with experience working on biotransformation processes of small molecules
- Strong knowledge in targeted and untargeted analysis using LC-high resolution mass-spectrometry
- Solid understanding of major chemical biotransformation processes occurring in different matrices
- At least 2 years of experience working on biodegradability of agrochemicals and pharmaceuticals in activated sludges or other microbiome systems
