Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Applied Physicist - Large Experiment Operations Manager to join our Experimental Physics Department at CERN. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the efficient operation of our large-scale experiments, including the ATLAS detector.
Responsibilities
Manage the operation of all ATLAS experiment installations, including planning interventions and responding to 24/7 problems.
Organize and chair regular meetings to define and schedule maintenance interventions on the ATLAS detector and its infrastructure.
Interact with upgrade projects to identify future needs for experiment operations.
Coordinate the commissioning of upgraded detector systems and prepare necessary infrastructure for operation within the ATLAS underground area.
Perform hands-on maintenance and repair of dedicated counting room equipment under Technical Coordination responsibility.
Develop and maintain computer-based systems to aid in understanding complex detector relations.
Qualifications
PhD or equivalent experience in applied physics or experimental physics or a related field.
Proven experience operating large physics experiments.
In-depth experience operating at least one detector system (e.g., Silicon trackers, calorimeters, muon spectrometers).
Experience coordinating work involving multiple stakeholders and teams.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
