The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Intellectual Property/Patent Attorney to join our team at Roche Diagnostics International in Rotkreuz. As a patent professional, you will be responsible for managing and expanding our patent portfolio, ensuring freedom to operate for diagnostic assays and workflows implemented on automated testing systems.
You will work closely with stakeholders engaged in research & development, manufacturing, business development/partnering, portfolio and lifecycle management, and commercialization activities. Your responsibilities will include providing legal opinions concerning patentability, validity, and freedom to operate, as well as performing patent prosecution work directly and/or in collaboration with outside counsel.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Manage and expand our patent portfolio, ensuring freedom to operate for diagnostic assays and workflows implemented on automated testing systems.
- Provide clear and informed counseling to stakeholders engaged in research & development, manufacturing, business development/partnering, portfolio and lifecycle management, and commercialization activities.
- Perform patent prosecution work directly and/or in collaboration with outside counsel.
- Align the patent portfolio with short- and long-term business needs and priorities by identifying and capturing patenting opportunities that arise in connection with company R&D efforts.
- Develop and implement patent strategies to support business objectives.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of intellectual property into business decisions.
Your Requirements
- 5 - 7+ years of experience in patent prosecution and counseling in a corporate setting and/or law firm. Law firm experience preferred.
- Qualified EP patent attorney or eligible trainee.
- Advanced Degree or equivalent experience in Engineering, preferably software engineering or biomedical engineering.
- Experience in patenting software solutions, including AI and ML, preferred.
- Contract and transactional experience is desirable.
