Job Description:

We seek a highly skilled Director of Technical Operations to oversee the Maintenance and Repair Operations (MRO) function, providing 24/7 technical support to our entire river fleet. This role involves coordinating closely with the Deck & Engine team onboard our ships and ensuring seamless operations for approximately 30 river vessels across Europe and Egypt.

You will lead a staff of 20+ employees, collaborating with various departments such as Nautical, Onboard Operations, and IT, while reporting directly to the Head of Technical & Newbuild. The position is based in Basel, Switzerland, with extensive traveling required to service hubs, shipyards, and docking locations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintenance Operations:
    • Lead the Maintenance and Repair Operations across the assigned river fleet division of 30+ vessels.
    • Develop systems and processes for condition-based predictive and preventive maintenance operations.
    • Organize and execute all maintenance activities during the winter lay-off.
    • Manage the maintenance operations within defined financial budgets.
    • Contribute to developing strategic multi-year maintenance plans and investment schedules.
    • Lead or support cross-departmental projects and initiatives to improve the maintenance operation of our fleet.
    • Liaise with relevant departments to develop clear maintenance standard procedures and service levels.
    • Support the development of training modules for onboard crew related to maintenance.
  • Leadership & Stakeholder Management:
    • Lead a maintenance team of 20+ technical staff based in our main service hubs and service stations.
    • Partner with purchasing to strengthen and develop relationships with vendors.
    • Develop strong relationships with Operations and Newbuild teams to ensure continuous improvement of processes and incorporation of key findings in new projects.
    • Report and communicate business updates to the corporate team and executive leadership focusing on maintenance operations.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Leadership & Functional Skills:
    • Proven ability to lead a large organization across multiple sites.
    • Able to support the development of multi-year strategic plans for maintenance & projects.
    • Proven track record of implementing new systems & processes, and driving change across organizations.
    • Knowledge of maintenance & repair operations in mechanical engineering systems.
  • Education and Professional Experience:
    • Degree in Engineering or extensive experience in this field with a proven track record.
    • Experience in either commercial or governmental naval operations, or Hotel Maintenance.
    • Minimum of 10-year experience in the field.
    • Degree in Naval Engineering is a plus.

Estimated Salary:

$120,000 - $180,000 per annum, depending on experience.
