Job Overview

The Senior Construction Manager plays a pivotal role at CRB, overseeing the direction and performance of field operations and construction management for assigned projects. This position is responsible for ensuring work is carried out in accordance with project objectives and requirements.

Main Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple small projects as well as those with a Total Installed Cost (TIC) above $25MM, leveraging expertise to drive successful project delivery.
  • Implement and maintain effective management, planning, and cost control systems in collaboration with the project team.
  • Determine construction staffing requirements, roles, and responsibilities in coordination with the project team under the guidance of the Corporate Policies Manual and CRB management.
  • Contribute to pre-construction activities relevant to assigned project work, driving efficiency and productivity.
  • Prepare or assist in preparing the project budget, ensuring alignment with project objectives.
  • Collaborate with the estimating department to develop a comprehensive buy-out plan.
  • Work closely with the procurement department to establish a procurement strategy.
  • Develop a project execution plan, outlining key milestones and timelines.
  • Assist in implementing and maintaining an effective construction safety program, coordinating with the Project EHS Technician as needed.
  • Coordinate with engineering consultants to ensure seamless integration of design and construction processes.
  • Review and approve construction operation plans, ensuring compliance with project requirements.
  • Review and approve project change order requests, minimizing delays and financial impact.
  • Review and approve applications for payment, verifying accuracy and completeness.
  • Provide monthly forecasting for all projects, including internal general conditions costs, enabling informed decision-making.
  • Review contingency plans for potential problems concerning labor activity, fire, storms, etc., ensuring proactive risk mitigation.
  • Track and report on all project costs, identifying areas for improvement.
  • Identify and evaluate risks that may impact the project, developing strategies to mitigate them.
  • Approve and support the project quality control program, ensuring adherence to industry standards.
  • Remain knowledgeable of client prime agreements, subcontract agreements, purchase order terms and conditions, and subconsultant agreements.
  • Administer contract documents in accordance with policies and procedures, maximizing benefits for CRB.
  • Initiate and attend client meetings, fostering strong relationships and open communication.
  • Visit the engineering office to coordinate construction requirements with design operations, ensuring a smooth workflow.
  • Provide support and guidance for project personnel, promoting teamwork and collaboration.
  • Implement and maintain a labor relations program when working with union contractors, addressing any concerns promptly.
  • Advise management of developments that may affect project profit, costs, schedules, and client relations, ensuring proactive issue resolution.
  • Establish and maintain communications between clients and subcontractors, ensuring accurate and timely information flow.
  • Develop and issue monthly status reports to keep management informed on construction progress, direct and indirect construction costs, and other project activities.
  • Manage project closeout activities, ensuring a thorough and efficient process.
  • Participate in business development activities and promote product client relationships, driving growth and revenue.

    Qualifications

    • University degree in Engineering or Construction Management, or equivalent.
    • 20+ years of successful project management experience, with a proven track record of delivering complex projects.
    • A team-oriented individual capable of managing others, with excellent leadership and communication skills.
    • Demonstrated success in managing the construction scope on mid-sized projects, with a focus on quality and timeliness.
    • Design/Build experience is a plus, but not required.
    • Maintenance of OSHA 30 hour training, ensuring compliance with industry regulations.
    • Minimum 8 hours of leadership/supervisory training annually, staying up-to-date with best practices.
    • A valid work permit for Switzerland/Germany or the ability to obtain one, ensuring compliance with local laws.
    • Fluency in German (C1+) is preferred, and the ability to communicate effectively in English (B1+).
    • Willingsness to travel and work on project sites in the DACH region.
