Our Research Team

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD student in musicology or ethnomusicology to join our research team at the Etat de Fribourg. The successful candidate will conduct ethnographic research on showpeople in Switzerland, co-supervised by an ethnomusicologist.

  • The PhD student will conduct interviews with showpeople and write a PhD dissertation on any aspect of the fairground world in Switzerland.
  • They will also write several conference papers that could then be worked out as dissertation chapters.

Requirements

  • Master in ethnomusicology or musicology (or affiliated domain)
  • Experience or ability to quickly develop knowledge and skills in ethnographic research methods
  • Ability to work independently as well as in collaboration with the team
  • Proficiency in English and in German (and ideally Swiss German, although not a requirement)
