Job Description

**Job Summary**

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Surgeon to join our team at Medecins Sans Frontieres. As a key member of our surgical team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality surgical care to patients in need.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct pre-operative consultations and evaluations to assess surgical risks and obtain patient consent.
  • Perform emergency and scheduled surgical interventions, including complex procedures.
  • Provide post-operative clinical care and lead ward rounds, collaborating with anaesthetists, operating theatre nurses, and ward staff.
  • Coordinate the implementation of clinical policies, tools, guidelines, and protocols.
  • Collect and analyze quantitative surgical data to inform program decisions.
  • Support the organization of the operating schedule and monitor the use of materials and equipment, advising on supply needs.
  • Develop and implement hospital emergency disaster response plans and conduct practice drills.
  • Manage, train, and supervise the surgical team to ensure high-quality care and efficient operations.

Requirements

  • Specialist surgery qualification and recent clinical experience (at least six months within the last 24 months).
  • At least one year's post-specialization professional experience.
  • Willingness to work in various surgical fields, including gynaecology/obstetrics, orthopaedics, skin grafts, and war surgery.
  • Strong IT skills, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Fluency in English and/or French.
  • Availability for a minimum of six weeks.
  • Commitment to MSF's work and values.
  • Strong team player with adaptability and ability to work in multicultural environments.
  • Flexible and able to manage stress.
  • Self-driven with a solution-oriented approach.
  • Ability to train others.

Assets

  • Experience working in developing countries.
  • People management experience.
  • Fluency in Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, or Russian.
  • Versatile experience in different surgical fields, including caesarean sections, orthopaedics (including fixators), and skin grafts.
  • Training courses in humanitarian surgery in austere environments.
