Photonics Research Assistant

We have developed a groundbreaking platform that leverages a material with an exceptional Pockels coefficient, enabling the creation of advanced photonic structures and innovative applications, such as AI networks and quantum computing.

This working student position is at the heart of our R&D activities, ensuring our semiconductor chips can be thoroughly tested to their full potential with comprehensive electrical, optical, and mechanical integration solutions.

The successful candidate will support our R&D team in operating a custom-built prober for electro-optical characterization of photonic chips and participate in hands-on activities, including PCB design, electrical and optical assembly of silicon chips, soldering, installation of hardware components and samples into test chambers, running calibration routines, and performing measurements.

You will collaborate closely with R&D engineers, gaining insights into electrical and optical testing hardware, test methods, and practical lab skills related to semiconductor components.

This role is ideal for students pursuing engineering, natural science, or computer science degrees at a university or a university of applied sciences. It may also be suited as an industrial internship for an engineering student of Bachelor/Master program.

We seek a motivated candidate with an interest in electrical engineering and/or photonic test systems. Desired qualifications include:

• A strong interest in hands-on work with delicate semiconductor components and electrical and optical measurement equipment
• Python knowledge (e.g., data analysis and plotting, adjusting existing code, instrument control)
• Experience with Git, PCB design software, CAD software, and electrical engineering basics is an advantage
• An independent and exact working style
• The ability to commit to a regular weekly schedule
• A desire to contribute within a dynamic deep-tech startup
