Job Title: Radiation Protection Technician

CERN, the world's largest particle accelerator complex, is seeking a Radiation Protection Technician to join its dynamic team of radiation protection specialists. As a key member of the Occupational Health and Safety and Environmental Protection Unit, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety of personnel and the public from the effects of ionizing radiation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess radiological risks at workplaces in accelerator tunnels, experimental areas, laboratories, storage areas, and workshops.
  • Develop and implement dose prevention and minimization measures, including radiological characterization of potentially radioactive materials and waste.
  • Perform radiation measurements in various high-energy, multi-particle radiation fields.
  • Evaluate, analyze, and follow up operational dosimetry data.
  • Contribute to the drafting and updating of radiation protection documents and procedures.
  • Advise personnel on radiation protection matters.

Requirements:

  • Higher technical diploma, bachelor's degree, or equivalent relevant experience in radiation protection or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in operational radiation protection, radiation protection instrumentation, and legislation.
  • Proven skills in documenting radiological risk assessments and measurements.

Technical Competencies:

  • Knowledge of regulatory framework and best practice in radiation protection.
  • Knowledge of dosimetry in mixed radiation fields, including measurement techniques of ionizing radiation.
  • Knowledge of personal dosimetry.
  • Knowledge of radiation safety.

Language Skills:

Spoken and written English or French: ability to understand and speak the other language in professional contexts would be an advantage or the willingness to acquire it rapidly.
