Geotechnical Mining Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Mining Geotechnical Engineer to join our team at Glencore. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient extraction of minerals from our open pit mines.
Key Responsibilities:- Geotechnical Design and Assessment: Develop and implement geotechnical designs and assessments for our open pit mines, taking into account the interaction with historic underground workings.
- Geotechnical Hazard Identification and Mitigation: Identify geotechnical hazards and recommend remedial measures or safety controls in accordance with industry best practice and our site's Geotechnical Control Management Plan.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with stakeholders to deliver the mine plan safely, economically, and efficiently.
- Safe Work Practices: Develop and implement safe work practices for work on or around slopes.
- Standards and Procedures: Contribute to and implement standards and procedures in respect to slope/ground monitoring/control and mine infrastructure.
- Geotechnical Inspections: Conduct geotechnical inspections of pits, dumps, and stockpiles to ensure statutory compliance and alignment with site standards.
- Geotechnical Advice and Support: Advise and assist stakeholders with recommendations on geotechnical issues regarding mine design/planning and operations as requested.
- Experience: A minimum of three years of experience working in a similar role in large open pit mining operations.
- Knowledge: Understanding of anisotropic deposits is highly desirable.
- Technical Skills: Knowledge of industry-standard modeling and mine design systems, particularly Vulcan and Rocscience suite.
- Communication and Report Writing Skills: Excellent communication and report writing skills.
- Qualifications: Bachelor of Civil Engineering majoring in Geotechnical Engineering, or similar relevant tertiary qualification from a recognized tertiary institution.
