We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced researcher to join our team at The Biozentrum, University of Basel, as a Postdoctoral Researcher in Urban CO2 Flux Observations and Modeling.

About the Project

The successful candidate will be involved in our Horizon project CLMS-Cities, which aims to develop a new urban CO2 emission product for the Copernicus Land Monitoring Service (CLMS). The project involves collaboration with a multidisciplinary group of partners across Europe, focusing on the development of a novel bottom-up methodology for estimating urban CO2 emissions and utilizing urban eddy covariance observations for method evaluation.

Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the development of the urban CO2 emission product and methodology
  • Collaborate with project partners to integrate data and expertise
  • Operate and maintain micrometeorological towers, including data acquisition, database management, and data processing procedures
  • Assist in teaching at Bachelor's and Master's levels, depending on research experience
  • Support student supervision and research activities
Requirements

The ideal candidate should hold a PhD in environmental sciences, meteorology, physics, biology, or related disciplines. Strong coding skills (e.g., Python, R, or Matlab) and experience in computational methods and numerical analysis are essential. Research experience in micrometeorology or urban climatology, as well as hands-on experience with eddy covariance applications, would be advantageous. Excellent command of English is required, with basic German being an advantage.
