It unites basic and clinical scientists to advance our understanding of healthand disease and to develop pioneering therapies benefiting the lives of patients in areas of unmet need. With more than 70 research groups and 800 employees, the Department of Biomedicine is the largest department at the University. We are located in the heart of Basel at 6 different locations. Be part of our future The Metastasis Biology group led by Dr. Magdalena Sznurkowska seeks a motivated PhD candidate with a strong interest in understanding the drivers of cancer spread. We focus on characterising the dynamic behaviour of tumour cells within distinct metastatic niches. Building on our experience in cell-fate tracking tracking and studying various stages of the metastatic cascade, we set out to follow tumour cell-niche interactions to reveal how distant sites shape cancer progression-and where we can intervene. This research is supported by the ERC Starting Grant. Start date: Flexible, between 1 March and 1 September 2026. Prior experience in molecular biology is welcome, but not required.
