Founded in 2017, Dufour aerospace aim to be a leader in clean aviation by combining the best of helicopters and fixed-wing planes with our game-changing tilt-wing technology.

Dufour’s first product called Aero 2 is a long-range VTOL unmanned aircraft system with a maximum payload of 40 kg.

As of 2024 the 3rd generation of Aero 2 experimental development prototypes is in fight test and it is planned for entry-into-service operations over sparsely populated areas in 2026.

Tasks

The work will be organized in the following steps:

Design study of a highly loaded bracket which will take into account the following requirements:

  • Functionality: Interface with enough room for installation / maintenance.
  • Strength: A look at the part strength at the most critical cases need to be performed.
  • Manufacturability: Draft angle, pin hole, insert, min/max thickness, plybook etc...
  • Weight saving: -40%min targeted compare to the initial design

Preliminary Design Review (PDR): This review is an official milestone to present trade studies and agree the best concept to take forward with the design and stress team leads. Following this, detailed stress calculations and part design maturation would take place. Through collaboration with the manufacturing partner, tool design would be evolved.

Critical Design Review (CDR): This review is an official milestone to present and critic the design with the design and stress team leads. Its validation would officially launch of the mold production. A strength justification report will be produced.

Mechanical testing: A test fixture and procedure will be designed. After receiving the initial parts from manufacture, a set of mechanical tests will be performed to validate its strength and rigidity. A test results report will be produced and the strength justification report up issued.

Requirements

We are seeking a highly motivated candidate to support our mechanical team on the weight saving program of our Aero2.

With your background, CAD design, structural analysis and composite manufacturing, you will work on the development of a new composite carbon fiber bracket meant to replace an initial machined aluminum alloy design.

A minimum commitment of 6 months and a potential interest in subsequently working with us.

Starting date: 31/03/2024 (Can be discussed)
