The Research Unit “Biodiversity and Conservation Biology“ studies the diversity of life in its various forms, from genetic diversity to the diversity of species and habitats and their interactions. PostDoc on an eDNA-based fungal diversity study across Europe, 80-100% (f/m/d)

As part of a large research consortium, you will manage and coordinate an eDNA study to monitor fungal diversity across Europe. You will be responsible for organizing air sampling, processing of these samples and DNA extraction in a fully equipped eDNA laboratory at WSL with the help of a lab technician. Furthermore, you will analyze the data, present results on conferences and meetings and publish in international scientific journals together with other project partners. You will profit from a professional and highly stimulating academic environment at WSL as well as from a diverse and dynamic research group.

You have a PhD degree in natural sciences with a strong background in biodiversity, microbial ecology and bioinformatics, or related fields. You have proven experience in biostatistical analysis and programming (e.g., in R) as well as in community data analysis of eDNA metabarcoding datasets. Knowledge about morphological identification of fungi is an asset. You are an open-minded person with good communication skills who likes to collaborate with international colleagues. The capability to develop new ideas independently and very good English skills (both written and oral) are necessary.
