The Group of Prof. Marc Robinson-Rechavi and Dr. Frederic Bastian is proposing a Biocurator position in the curation and annotation of single-cell data, metadata and analysis standards. The biocurator will join the team developing the Bgee database at the Department of Ecology and Evolution, University of Lausanne, Switzerland, and at the SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics.
We are looking for a biocurator to participate in an Open Research Data project on FAIR single-cell data, which is a collaboration between the teams developing the bioinformatics resources Bgee at UNIL and SIB, and ASAP at EPFL and SIB. In this project we aim to standardize metadata and analysis of single-cell transcriptomics data, for integration between the Bgee and ASAP resources, and to improve single-cell data stewardship in the broader community.
This main focus of this biocurator position will be to provide expert annotation of single-cell gene expression data. This task will include detecting interesting datasets, assessing data sources and datasets, expertly using standards, ontologies and controlled vocabularies of the project, and annotating marker genes. The person will work closely and constructively with the permanent Bgee biocurator. The biocurator position will also provide curation and quality control of metadata and analysis standards of single-cell data, and support to specific biology studies using single-cell data.
The biocurator will be a full member of the Bgee team, and be expected to participate actively in all group meetings and common tasks to advance the project. The person will participate in the life of the University of Lausanne and of SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics, including seminars and opportunities for training. The Department and the group are highly international, and all activities are conducted in English.
The biocurator position will work on this project and contribute to the Bgee project, in close coordination with the Bgee team. The job description stipulates:
60% Expert annotation of single-cell gene expression data.
- 20% Curation and quality control of metadata and analysis standards of single-cell data.
- 20% Support to specific biology studies using single-cell data.

Profile requirements
We are seeking to recruit someone with a:
- Strong interest and a master or PhD degree in bioinformatics, computational biology, or a related field.
- Previous experience in biocuration necessary.
- Good level of scientific English necessary.
- Experience with bioinformatics analysis of transcriptomics data a plus.
