Doctoral Researcher

**What we offer / expect**:

- The unit „Sociology, Social Policy, Social Work” in the Department of Social Work, Social Policy and Global Development offers a friendly international and interdisciplinary work environment with research and teaching that span Global North, Global South and Global East perspectives.
- The unit provides a supportive research environment with the Doctoral Programme PROWEL, seminars, workshops and informal exchanges, and the opportunity to participate in international research training and conferences.
- The position includes research for a doctoral thesis (50% of contracted time), teaching responsibilities (max 1.5 courses per year; BA/MA thesis supervision) and support of the research and administrative activities of the chair.

**Your profile**
- Master’s degree in Social Sciences (sociology, political science, social policy, or a related field), obtained with excellent results
- Interest in empirical research with a comparative focus on policy developments and outcomes, including topics relating to gender, socio-economic inequalities, social care/childcare, ethnicity and migration, or religion
- Proficiency in qualitative methods; preferably with experience/interest in comparative case study research; openness towards all empirical methods (incl. mixed-method)
- Motivation to complete a doctoral thesis
- Willingness to collaborate in the activities of the Department - Strong English and/or German skills (the doctoral thesis can be written in either language)
- Teaching and research languages of the Unit: German and English; French skills are beneficial (the most-spoken language in the Canton of Fribourg is French). The University of Fribourg provides free language courses in German and French.

**Job Type**: 80-100%

Pay: From CHF55’000.00 per year
