Positions are available immediately.

The Institute for Infectious Diseases (IFIK) offers research, teaching, and diagnostic services in all specialties of medical microbiology. The IFIK is the only Swiss university institute that integrates comprehensive expertise in virology, bacteriology, mycology, parasitology, and infection serology under one roof.

Three research positions at the PhD student or postdoctoral level are currently open for individuals interested in investigating intestinal pathogen-microbiome-host interactions.

The positions are embedded within the frameworks of the NCCR Microbiomes (NCCR Microbiomes) and the Multidisciplinary Center for Infectious Diseases MCID; (MCID ), offering opportunities to collaborate with leading experts in microbiology, functional genomics, and mathematical modeling. NCCR and MCID provide access to diverse training courses and unique collaborative prospects with international leaders in their respective fields.

Requirements
- Excellent academic track record, including outstanding performance during studies and, if applicable, in PhD research.
- Strong scientific knowledge base, scientific integrity, creativity, and excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- The project requires animal experimentation (mice). Prior experience in animal experimentation, such as infection experiments in mice, is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Proficiency in basic molecular biology, mammalian and bacterial cell biology, and general wet-lab techniques is expected.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively while being open to acquiring new skills
