**About The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade**

The role of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is to advance the interests of Australia and Australians internationally. This involves strengthening Australia’s security, enhancing Australia’s prosperity, delivering an effective and high quality overseas aid program and helping Australian travellers and Australians overseas.

The department provides foreign, trade and development policy advice to the Australian Government. DFAT also works with other Australian government agencies to drive coordination of Australia’s pursuit of global, regional and bilateral interests.

**About the Mission**

The Australian Permanent Missions to the United Nations and the World Trade Organization in Geneva pursue Australia’s interests in the United Nations and World Trade Organization through international diplomacy. The Australian Consulate-General in Geneva provides services to Australian citizens in Switzerland and Liechtenstein.

**About the position**

The key responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

- Support the Junior Professional Officer program, secondments and engage with Australian nationals working in the UN system in Geneva.
- Under supervision, lead the Mission’s work on Geneva Group issues and other multilateral coordination efforts (such as MIKTA).
- Establish, develop and maintain strong networks in organisations in Geneva and with fellow multilateral advisers in other missions.
- Manage and provide high-level briefing and any other support, including on research priorities and high-level visits, for the Permanent Representative/Head of Mission and the Deputy Head of Mission.
- Develop social media content and campaign events in conjunction with the UN Mission’s Public Diplomacy officer.
- Provide back-up support to other members in the Candidacies, Public Diplomacy and Projects Team; and
- Undertake other high priority tasks as identified by the Head of Mission.

**Qualifications/Experience**
- Demonstrated ability to provide high quality research and strong project management.
- Highly developed written and oral communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and confidence building networks with other missions and multilateral agencies.
- Knowledge of the United Nations, the World Trade Organization and Australian Government policies, interests, and priorities.
- Demonstrated high-level organisational, record-keeping, and event management skills.

**SELECTION CRITERIA**

A. Demonstrated knowledge of foreign affairs including the United Nations, World Trade Organisation and Australian Government policies, interests and priorities.

B. Strong interpersonal skills, including a proven record of high-level stakeholder management and the ability to negotiate with influence and build productive networks.

C. Well-developed planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities to achieve required outcomes and meet deadlines.

D. The ability to conduct research and analysis and to present the findings appropriately for the audience.

E. Effective judgement, decision making and problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to use initiative and innovation
