Are you excited about solving real world problems using advanced machine learning at one of the largest online travel companies in the world? If so, we'd like to hear from youExpedia Group is looking for a Machine Learning Scientist II to join our growing Search & Embeddings ML team that powers search, ranking, travel embeddings and personalized recommendations with state-of-the-art machine learning models for the multiple brands and lines of business in our portfolio.Your work will affect millions of our customers and will have a direct impact on our business results. This is an applied research role: your models will be deployed to our production systems and your results will be measured objectively via A/B testing. We collaborate closely with the analytics, product, and technology teams.

**What you’ll do**:

- Conduct exploratory data analyses, formulate machine learning problems, and build effective models.
- Partner with data and software engineering teams to deliver your solutions into production.
- Document the technical details of your work.
- Collaborate and brainstorm with other team members and across the company.
- Present your ideas and results to product management, stakeholders, and leadership teams in a clear and effective manner.
- Work with product management to understand business problems, identify challenges and machine learning opportunities, and scope solutions.

**Who you are**:

- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree in a related technical field; or equivalent related professional experience
- Solid understanding of modern machine learning techniques, statistics, and hypothesis testing
- Hands-on experience with data wrangling, feature engineering, model building, and visualization
- Familiarity with Python and related machine learning tools, deep learning frameworks such as Keras, TensorFlow or PyTorch, and SQL-like query languages for data extraction, transformation, and loading
- Experience working with large data sets in a distributed computing environment such as Spark is a plus.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Passion for solving interesting and impactful real-world problems using principled techniques and best practices.
