The Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC) is a global centre of expertise established in 1998 to monitor and report on the situation of people who become displaced within their own countries as a result of conflicts, violence or disasters.

IDMC has been generating evidence to inform and galvanise action by governments, intergovernmental organisations, aid providers, humanitarian and development actors working at the local, national, regional and global levels to prevent, address and resolve internal displacement. Yet the number of internally displaced people (IDPs) worldwide reaches new records year after year.

The scale of the phenomenon is such that IDMC alone cannot mobilise the evidence and collective action needed to curb the issue. It can, however, share the unique expertise it has acquired and the tailored data collection and analysis tools it has developed over the years to advise and empower others in planning and delivering more impactful and measurable actions.

As part of this strategic objective, IDMC is setting up a team of Capacity Support Coordinators whose role it will be to pass IDMC’s expertise on to governments and other organisations in countries affected by internal displacement and at the regional and global levels, and accompany them in implementing better practices to collect, analyse and report on the phenomenon, and addressing the issue through more impactful preventative measures, responses, policies and durable solutions.

**What you will do**:
Under the supervision of the Head of Programmes, the Capacity Support Coordinator on Internal Displacement Data Ecosystems will serve as IDMC’s focal point to support governments and other organisations in countries affected by internal displacement in identifying, assessing and proposing options to improve the various sources of information on internal displacement and related issues at the national level. The Capacity Support Coordinator will also be responsible for ensuring that lessons learnt and good practices identified through this work are disseminated at the regional and global level. The Capacity Support Coordinator will be based in Geneva but is expected to travel to countries affected by internal displacement, including post-conflict and post-disaster settings, 50 per cent of the time to ensure adequate follow-up with in-country partners.

The main roles and responsibilities for this position are:

- Through desk-based and in-country research and analysis, undertake assessments of national data systems on internal displacement, identifying available data sources, producers, publishers and users, potential gaps and areas for improvement to ensure a comprehensive monitoring of the phenomenon;
- Generate engagement and work closely with in-country actors to develop road maps for the improvement of national data systems on internal displacement;
- Document and disseminate lessons learnt from these processes at the national, regional and global level through workshops, public events and publications;
- Identify, analyse and document examples of successful practices and methods to collect, analyse and use different types of data to measure internal displacement data across the world
- Advise government and other in-country partners on how to develop and integrate internal displacement objectives and indicators into existing policy and operational frameworks, to ensure the effective measurement and monitoring of displacement risk as well as progress towards durable solutions;
- Raise awareness from governments and other organisations working on internal displacement in affected countries on the importance of collecting, analysing, reporting and using better data to inform more impactful interventions;
- Generate demand for improvements to internal displacement data systems at the national level;
- Develop and provide training on internal displacement data, building on IDMC’s expertise and examples of successful initiatives from around the world, for audiences at the national, regional and global levels;
- Represent IDMC before partners at the national and regional level, and in public events;
- Contribute to fundraising proposals to support the continuity and development of this area of work;

**What you will bring**:

- A Master’s degree in geography, Environmental Science, international affairs, displacement, migration, humanitarian or development studies, information science or related field;
- Excellent communication skills and ability to represent the organisation at senior technical and political levels;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and in at least one additional language;
