A digital twin is a digital representation of a real-world entity or system. It reflects a single physical object, person, process, organisation, or other abstraction.
Backed by data, digital twins provide valuable insights on the state of a system which can be extremely useful for the monitoring of space vehicles and decision making during a space mission.
In the context of this internship, we aim at implementing a digital twin for the 2023 Xplore Rover.
The idea is to have a 3D representation of the rover displayed on the control station to monitor the state of all electronical and mechanical components. Activities include:
- Study of Digital Twin solutions and selection of the most appropriate in the Rover context
- 3D modelling of the Rover using the selected solution
- Definition of critical components to model
- Design and implementation of fault detection and alerting for a subset of critical components
