- To reinforce our team, we are looking for a Research Associate - Venture Asset Management Initiative._

In collaboration with an external partner, IMD is establishing a Venture Asset Management Initiative to accelerate and deepen academic and investment practitioner understanding of venture asset management in Switzerland and Europe (the “Initiative”) by bridging the gap between the status quo and the dynamic potential of venture asset management. It is envisaged that the Initiative will drive engagement and improve understanding of general and technical knowledge on venture asset management in Switzerland and Europe.

The Research Associate will be a key contributor to the Initiative’s research program and thought leadership and will be working in a small team of researchers with Professor Karl Schmedders.

**Key Activities**

The primary responsibility of the Research Associate is to conduct rigorous research on the topic of venture investing and venture asset management and to translate research insights into outputs of various forms geared at both academic and practitioner audiences.

Another important responsibility is to engage with key stakeholders in the venture capital space as well as with institutional investors and entrepreneurs in Switzerland and Europe.

The role includes the following key activities:

- Delivering quality outputs in line with Faculty expectations and academic standards
- Writing articles, case studies, book chapters, reports, newspaper and magazine articles, etc.
- Providing proactive ideas and suggestions that will lead to new ways of thinking or new ways of presenting research material
- Building good working relationship within IMD, as well as external stakeholders connected to the Initiative
- Presenting complex and technical ideas in an understandable and intuitive way
- Managing expectations and driving the project throughout the research assignment
- Driving engagement with academics, venture capital professionals, institutional investors and entrepreneurs
- Keeping abreast of current market developments (industry trends, market conditions, etc.) that may have an impact on the Initiative

The Research Associate has a high level of responsibility for driving projects and delivering quality output. The researcher will also work alongside Professor Karl Schmedders, the external partner and other team members.

**Specific Requirements**

**Ideal profile**
- Graduate degree in a relevant discipline
- Strong analytical skills and research skills (both qualitative and quantitative research)
- Strong interest in empirical finance
- Thorough understanding of the venture capital space and startup ecosystem (ideally in Switzerland and in Europe)
- Knowledge in the area of traditional and alternative investments
- Ability to translate complex research insights to practitioner audiences
- Full professional fluency in English and French (written and spoken) at a native level or equivalent, additional language spoken in Switzerland an asset
- Self-starter; team player, good communication skills
- Excellent writing, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and proactively with mínimal supervision
- Deadline and results oriented
- Ability to work well under pressure
- A valid Swiss work permit or Swiss or EU-25EFTA citizenship is preferred for this position
