In the group of Professor Artur Summerfield at the Institute of Virology and Immunology (IVI), we are recruiting a bioinformatician to support our research projects in systems immunology. Working place is on the IVI Campus in Mittelhäusern near Bern. The IVI is a research unit of the Swiss Food Safety and Veterinary Office and is dedicated to diagnosis, surveillance and control of highly infectious epizootic and zoonotic viral diseases. In collaboration with the Vet-suisse Faculty of the University of Bern, the IVI is responsible for research and teaching in the fields of virology and immunology with a focus on animal and zoonotic viral diseases. The in-stitute represents a unique competence centre for virology and immunology in Switzerland that is covering many viruses including influenza viruses, coronaviruses, flaviviruses, picor-naviruses, rhabdoviruses, lentiviruses and many others.
The Summerfield group employs systems immunology approaches to dissect protective im-mune responses and develop novel immunotherapeutics and vaccines. The position will play an important role in various projects. These include: (i) using computational biology approach-es to elucidate the complex immune responses against African swine fever virus and identify pathways of protective immunity and correlates of protection using large data sets of tran-scriptomic, microbiome datasets, immunological, virological and clinical readouts; (ii) anal-yses of single cell sequencing data sets to elucidate functional modulation of dendritic cells and macrophages during virus infection; (iii) computational analyses of antibody repertoire development following virus infection; (iv) virus evolution during host adaptation.
This is a 12-month position with a perspective of extension for three more years.
