Unctad Internship in The Trade, Environment

This Internship position is in the Oceans Economy and Fisheries Programme, Trade, Environment,, Division on International Trade and Commodities (DITC). The Oceans Economy and Fisheries Programme carries out analytical and capacity-building activities aimed at supporting developing countries to leverage the sustainable development opportunities offered by the oceans economy while building resilience and addressing plastic pollution.

The internship is for a period of three months starting on 1 July 2023.
- Installed in his/her computer the latest version of the Microsoft Windows operating system,software and security updates as soon as they are issued.
- Enabled the built-in software firewall that comes with the operating software of the computer.
- Be able to use the password manager enabling the creation of strong passwords and to secure access to all UNCTAD/UN/related resources.

Interns at the United Nations Secretariat are not paid. All costs of travel and accommodation, including living expenses, must be covered by the intern or any relevant sponsoring institution. **Responsibilities**:
Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background, the department to which she/he is assigned and the period during which she/he will undertake the internship. Duties may include, but are not limited to:
Economic/legal/political analysis:
Prepares briefing notes, inputs to speeches, PowerPoint presentations, flyers and other communication material on oceans economy, trade, climate change and plastic pollution.

Prepares inputs for analytical studies on development issues and policies related to oceans economy, trade, climate change and plastic pollution.

Prepares short news items and articles on relevant projects and activities by the Oceans and Fisheries, Climate Change and Plastic Programmes.

Meeting support:
Follows intergovernmental and other meetings and prepares summary reports, list of participants, evaluation forms and similar material.

Assists in the organization and servicing of online meetings, seminars, panels, etc.

Technical cooperation/Capacity building:
Compiles and analyses the data and other information necessary for the preparation of technical cooperation project proposals and reports in the area of oceans economy, trade, climate change and plastic pollution.

Participates in the development and delivery of training material on oceans economy, trade, climate change and plastic pollution.

General:
Performs other related duties as required, necessary for the final delivery of the Programme’s services;
Undertakes on-the-job and other training activities (if available during the internship).

Work implies frequent interaction with the following:
Staff within the Trade, Environment, Climate Change and Sustainable Development Branch; staff of the Division on International Trade and Commodities; staff of other international organizations working on related issues; academics and representatives of civil society.

Results Expected:
Contributes to the analysis of development issues, especially oceans economy, trade, climate change and plastic pollution.; provides practical and substantive assistance in technical cooperation projects and supports the organization of meetings and capacity building activities held in person or remotely.

More generally, interns shall:
1. Observe all applicable rules, regulations, instructions, procedures and directives of the Organization not with standing their status as described in section 4 of the UN Internship Programme Administrative Instructions ST/AI/2000/9 & ST/AI/2005/11;
2. Provide the receiving departments/offices with a copy of all materials prepared by them during the internship. The UN shall be entitled to all property rights, including but not limited to patents, copyrights and trademarks, with regard to material which bears a direct relation to or is made in consequence of, the services provided under the internship. At the request of the UN, the interns shall assist in securing such property rights and transferring them to the UN in compliance with the requirements of the applicable law;
3. Respect the impartiality and independence required of the UN and of the receiving department/office and shall not seek or accept instructions regarding the services performed under the internship agreement from any Government or from any authority external to the UN;

5. Refrain from any conduct that would adversely reflect on the UN or on the receiving department/office and will not engage in any activity which is incompatible with the aims and objectives of the UN.
