**PhD or MD-PhD student: diagnosis and prognosis of childhood asthma**

The Child and Adolescent Health group, headed by Prof. Dr. med. Claudia Kuehni conducts population-based and clinical studies in child health.

**Would you like to understand and improve healthcare for children with asthma? Develop prognostic models for predicting the disease course? Conduct a participatory research study, with patients' families and physicians?** As a PhD student in our group, you will have the unique opportunity to be part of the Swiss Paediatric Airway Cohort (SPAC), a large clinical cohort study of children seen for respiratory problems in Swiss hospitals. The project, funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation, aims to improve knowledge on diagnosis and outcome of childhood asthma, by analysing healthcare data from hospitals and patient-reported questionnaires.

**We look for a PhD student** to complement the study team. Together with a postdoc and other PhD students, you will organise the study in the participating children's hospitals and collect data from hospital databases and questionnaires. You will communicate with paediatric pulmonologists, interview parents of patients, and supervise research assistants. In your PhD, you will be taught a broad array of statistical approaches to analyse your data, learn to write manuscripts, present your results at national and international meetings, and publish them in peer-reviewed journals.

You:

- Have a university degree (MD, MSc) in medicine, pharmacology, psychiatry, or related field
- Have a strong interest in child health, respiratory medicine, epidemiology, and biostatistics
- Have ideally clinical experience in paediatrics or respiratory medicine
- Are fluent in English and German
- Enjoy working in a team
