This position is located in the Editing Section, Languages Service, Division of Conference Management, Department for General Assembly and Conference Management, Geneva. The incumbent reports to the Arabic Editor, P4.
**Responsibilities**:
Within delegated authority, the Editor will be responsible for the following duties:
- Edits texts of a specialized or technical nature in order to ensure accuracy, clarity, cohesion and conformity with United Nations standards, policy and practice.
- Consults with the senior editor, with the other language editors and with the respective translation section and carries out research to clarify ambiguities and rectify substantive errors.
- Checks his/her language version against the language of the master/marked copy, redrafts incorrect or unclear passages and translates and inserts any passage that has been omitted.
- Provides authors or others submitting documentation with information on specific aspects of editorial policy and practice and assists them in the preparation of manuscripts.
- Performs other related duties as required.

Education
A first level degree from a university or institution of equivalent status.
Job - Specific Qualification
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of experience in editing, translation, précis-writing, self-revision, verbatim reporting, copy preparing, proofreading, production editing or in another relevant language field and using relevant computer software, electronic tools and databases is required.
One year of experience within a multilingual setting is desirable
Experience in editing publications and documents on international law is desirable.
Experience in planning, writing, copy-preparation, proofreading and the production of publications is desirable.
