**Position** **Summary**:
Reporting to the Senior Director, Media Strategy, the Director of Media Relations is responsible for executing a global media relations strategy designed to advance Bristol Myers Squibb's reputation among key audiences.
**Key **Responsibilities**:
- Executes a robust, global, Tier 1 media strategy that is aligned with corporate positioning and seeks to advance the company story, enhancing its reputation, and raising awareness of its people, products, and performance in priority markets through proactive and opportunistic media outreach and engagements, including print, broadcast and online media.
- Serves as a resource to Corporate Affairs team members and business partners executing media relations activity and ensures alignment on plans and activities across the enterprise.
- Manages continual cadence of news flow, overseeing sequence and strategy of announcements.
- Identifies, develops, and supports unique storylines and content opportunities that advance the company's strategic positioning.
- Builds and maintains relationships with top-tier media, manages incoming media requests, and executes proactive and opportunistic media outreach.
- Develops and maintains capabilities, resources, standards, protocols and media response mechanisms to support a global media center of excellence at BMS.
- Prepares media materials including announcements, pitches, social posts, talking points for interviews, etc.
- Ensures socialization and amplification of external announcements to internal audiences to advance workforce knowledge of BMS people, products, positions, and performance.
- Closely monitors external trends and insights to advise on where and how BMS should have a voice and to continually inform media strategy development.
- Demonstrates strong judgment and superior media acumen when engaging with reporters.
- Assists with planning and preparedness for issues response.
- Supports response efforts on issues response and crisis management.
- Manages agency partners and corresponding budgets.
- Measures BMS reputation and impact across priority audiences and make recommendations for improvements.
**Qualifications** & **Experience**:
- 10 years of media relations experience, preferably in pharmaceutical or similar industry.
- Existing relationships with top business, consumer and financial media.
- Excellent writing and research skills, with knowledge of AP style and a keen attention to detail.
- Strong business acumen, with a demonstrated ability to understand and translate business strategy.
- Issues management experience.
- Ability to interact effectively with many levels of colleagues across a complex, highly collaborative organization.
- Ability to effectively counsel senior leaders.
- Superior written, verbal, facilitation and interpersonal communications skills.
- Excels in fast-paced, challenging environment.
- High proficiency with digital communications and effective use of online platforms.
- Self-directed with proven ability to meet tight deadlines and balance multiple initiatives with competing priorities.
- Bachelors degree required, preferably in communications, journalism or related field.
