1. Background

The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), a specialized UN agency, is the global forum for intellectual property policy (IP), services, information, and cooperation.

WIPO GREEN was launched in 2013 to promote the diffusion of green technology by facilitating connections between green technology “seekers” and “providers,” i.e. those looking for green technology solutions, and those developing and/or providing them. At the heart of WIPO GREEN is its online marketplace, which hosts a wide range of green technologies from a worldwide pool of private and public sector contributors. It has now surpassed 120.000 entries.

WIPO GREEN partners with government institutions, intergovernmental organizations, academia, and companies - from small enterprises to Fortune 500 companies. Each partner brings unique insight, expertise, and networks. Through its partners, WIPO GREEN is able to increase its influence and reach new stakeholders, facilitate collaboration, and accelerate investment in green technology.

WIPO GREEN’s Acceleration Projects focus on a particular geographical area or technological domain and foster demand-driven technology deployment or transfer. The projects generate relevant knowledge about the green tech landscape in the specific context and are a gateway to a range of possible technology solutions, potential funders, legal counsel, and local and international commercial networks.

2. Objective of the assignment

The incumbent manages, in collaboration with senior staff, various projects and partner engagement opportunities.

3. Tasks & Deliverables

In cooperation with other WIPO GREEN staff, the following tasks are expected to be performed:
a) Act as general project manager on various Acceleration Projects (four contracts in Latin America, Indonesia, China and possibly others). This work includes:

- Manage the delivery of the works, tracking overall progress, resource use and suggesting corrective action where necessary;
- Provide planning direction and inputs;
- Collect information, produce and disseminate reports and documents as required;
- Maintain communications with IP offices in project countries;
- Liaise with and manage where appropriate with external suppliers / consultants;
- Identify and manage risks so that maximum benefit to WIPO and stakeholders is achieved;
- Monitor and report on project results internally at WIPO GREEN, for project donors and WIPO;
b) Manage the WIPO GREEN Finance Initiative by:

- Liaising with procurement and facilitating the selection process of consultants for the project;
- Provide inputs, collect information, monitoring activities, produce reports;
- Coordinate meetings with prospective partners;
- Support relationship management with partners;
c) Support partner engagement and perform in particular the following tasks: review incoming partner letters and discuss potential partnership opportunities amongst potential partners, provide inputs and feedback into potential partnership opportunities, as well as organize follow up with the prospective and selected priority partners;
d) Publish brief on Sustainable Fashion and organize launch event and any follow up activities as relevant;
e) Organize activities in relation to the IPO Green initiative by ensuring that the website contents are kept up-to-date, communication with IPOs maintained, webinars and other activities;
f) Research relevant technologies for the WIPO Green Technology Book;
g) Other related tasks as required.

3. Reporting

The incumbent reports to senior staff in the Climate Change and Food Security Unit, Global Challenges Division.

4. Profile
- Advanced university degree in a relevant field such as international relations, economics, international development, climate change, environment, etc.;
- At least 6 years of relevant work experience;
- Experience with stakeholder engagement;
- Network of relevant stakeholders;
- Track record of successful project management in an international setting;
- Good knowledge of and interest in climate change, food security, and environmental issues in general;
- Good knowledge of and interest in in green technology and innovation;
- Open minded;
- Can-do attitude;
- Excellent English and Spanish communication skills;
- Portuguese is an advantage.

5. Duration of contract and payment

May 1 to December 31, 2024

The applicant shall provide an indication of their remuneration expectations in Swiss Francs (daily rate). The contract may be renewed upon satisfactory performance and availability of funds.
