**SALARY**: CHF 51,180 - 63,472 per year, Switzerland; or $50,000 - $62,000 per year, United States

**SUMMARY DESCRIPTION**:
**This announcement is to hire TWO** program associates - one for the Fossil Economy Program, and the other for the Climate & Energy Program, Human Rights & Climate Change team.**

**CIEL’s Fossil Economy Program** works to transform the fossil fuel economy by fighting the expansion of petrochemical production, confronting the overuse of plastics, synthetic fertilizers, and pesticides, and working to expose and stop false solutions like carbon capture and storage, carbon dioxide removal, and other geoengineering approaches. By tackling the shared threats of fossil fuels, plastics, and agrochemicals and by unmasking the speculative nature of unproven technofixes, we can accelerate real solutions to the triple planetary crises of climate change, biodiversity collapse, and toxic pollution.

**CIEL’s Human Rights & Climate Change team **focuses on the protection of human rights in the context of climate action. This work takes place on two interrelated fronts. In UN processes and mechanisms CIEL advocates for inclusive and participatory climate policies that center on the needs of those most impacted while working to protect against ill-designed climate responses that threaten the rights of Indigenous Peoples and local communities. The team also plays an active role in CIEL’s work with partners to develop and support legal and judicial strategies that secure, strengthen, assert and exercise the right of people everywhere to a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment and the rights of future generations.

The Program Associate will assist Program leadership and staff in supporting intra
- and cross-program information flow and communication, participating in and supporting coalition spaces, maintaining effective working relationships and information sharing with partner organizations, conducting non-legal research in support of Program objectives and campaigns, drafting public-facing materials, and organizing events and other logistics to advance campaign objectives.

The position is ideal for an early career professional looking to gain experience doing a wide array of administrative and programmatic tasks in support of CIEL’s mission and to advance environmental justice. The role requires highly effective writing, curiosity and willingness to learn, ability to plan and execute events, strong organizational skills, the ability to work in collaborative processes with people from diverse backgrounds, a strong interest to work and engage with a diverse range of stakeholders, and a can-do attitude. The position may require occasional national and international travel. The Program Associate will report to the Director of the Fossil Economy Program or the Human Rights & Climate Change Team Manager.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:
Program Coordination and Advocacy:

- Help implement strategies and tactics to achieve goals as assigned, ensuring highest quality work products;
- Develop and maintain working knowledge related to projects, and monitor ongoing activities affecting related program goals;
- Assist in the implementation of strategies to educate and mobilize diverse constituencies in support of Program objectives and campaigns;
- Assist in the preparation, research, drafting, and editing of written materials, for example fact sheets, written comments, social media materials, blog posts, and publication-ready materials for use by decision makers, civil society partners, frontline communities, journalists, etc.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, relevant partners, and other actors/stakeholders to achieve Program and organization-wide goals.

Logistical Support and Project Management:

- Organization: Assist in information flow within and between the Program and other departments at CIEL, including keeping Program staff informed of progress on activities and engagements with partners and colleagues, working with the Communications Department, gathering documents, and maintaining filing systems.
- Events: Help organize and participate in events to support Program objectives; this could include monitoring event/project budgets, helping with travel arrangements, managing venue logistics, helping with catering, and communicating with participants
- Meetings and scheduling: Help convene and create agendas for internal meetings, coalition spaces, meetings with external partners, internal events involving staff from different teams, and public events
