The Department for Biomedical Research DBMR is a research department of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Bern with the mission to provide the researchers of the Inselspital (Bern University Hospital) with the best possible environment and infrastructures. Our aim is to bridge laboratory-based and biomedical patient-oriented clinical research.
**Laboratory Description**
The Precision Oncology lab approach to cancer research has grown in parallel with the rapid expansion of bioinformatics and sequencing technology over the past ten years. The lab led by Mark Rubin is focused on finding new vulnerabilities in androgen receptor (AR) resistance prostate cancer and developing therapies to combat the most aggressive forms of prostate cancer by studying patient-derived samples, in vivo and in vitro models, and functional screens. Combining multiple data sets from genomic, epigenetic, transcriptomic, and proteomic analyses, we hope to elucidate the mechanisms of prostate cancer progression and therapy resistance, including lineage plastic resistance.
**Position Summary**
Position Activities of the Research Group
- Oversee and coordinate daily activities of the projects including design and implementation of experimental protocols. Supervise Research Technicians in performance of their duties in the laboratory
- Develops standard operating protocols, modifies techniques, maintains and updates experimental results
- Summarize relevant data for presentation at national and international meetings
- Writing and editing of manuscripts for publication
- Performs other related duties as assigned
- Assist in the supervision of Bachelor, Master and PhD students
**Requirements**:
- PhD degree
- First-author publication(s)
- Strong background in molecular biology and cancer biology. Specific experience in prostate cancer highly encouraged
- Skilled in mammalian cell culture, including patient-derived organoid models, and in conducting functional studies on these models (lentiviral transduction, drug testing).
- Previous experience in mouse handling and xenograft experiments desired
- Previous experience in preclinical drug development desired
- Strong track record of project leadership and successful project funding
