Minimum qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in a legal field, LLB degree, or equivalent practical experience.
- EU qualified lawyer, and facility with copyright laws of civil and common law jurisdiction.
- Ability to speak and write in English fluently.

Preferred qualifications:

- Experience with international Intellectual Property Law.
- Familiarity with Internet technologies and the surrounding policy environments.
- Ability to manage several simultaneous projects from inception to completion under deadline pressure.
- High-level of organization, attention to detail, and written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to speak and write in a European language fluently.

As Copyright Counsel at Google, you work on the most exciting legal issues as disruptive technological innovations require creative and proactive legal guidance. You're part of a whip-smart group of in-house lawyers and the projects and cases you take on challenge you to think big and differently. As an integrated part of the team, you will proactively assess legal risks and advise on products that will not only move information into the 21st century, but move information law forward as well.

You will work on an array of projects from high-level strategy setting to rapid response on issues relating to Google’s products, artificial intelligence, litigation, anti-piracy, public policy, partnership outreach, and public messaging. At the heart of the role is cross-functional coordination with colleagues not only in the Legal department, but also on the Public Policy, Corporate Communications, and Partnerships teams.

**Responsibilities**:

- Establish and implement global strategy with a small team on copyright issues, and shape public positions and framing messages and materials for use in advocacy on copyright issues.
- Engage with Legal, Public Policy, and Product Engineering colleagues in advising Google on copyright issues and choices in its product development, and develop a reputation as a go-to expert, and identify overarching issues that must be solved at scale.
- Collaborate with in-house Litigation team and outside lawyers on Google’s own litigation, in setting strategy and in close attention to arguments raised in briefing, as well as monitoring copyright developments in litigation involving other companies.
- Develop and implement anti-piracy strategies to address emerging challenges online, including interfacing with rights-holder partners to identify opportunities for improved collaboration.
- Monitor, research, and advise on emerging copyright issues.
