About Investments
The Investments team is a global division of the Private Bank and Wealth Management team that is dedicated in providing high quality Investment Product Services to both Wealth Management and Private Banking clients. Our team of dedicated investments professionals service clients located globally with our best-in-class product range. The team spans across a spectrum of products and services ranging from Discretionary Portfolio Management, Funds, Private Equity, Hedge Funds, FX and Capital Market products.
Overall purpose of role
To be responsible for and accountable to the Global Head of Investments for the financial and operating performance of the Investments EME platform, including profits, cash, costs, client satisfaction and employee engagement. The purpose of the Head of Investments is to originate market leading product and service solutions and thought leadership that are suitable for Barclay’s clients globally. The role will take full responsibility for development and positioning a ‘best in class’ wealth advisory, discretionary management, and transactional idea generation business. Furthermore, the role includes responsibility to manage the overall financial performance, client satisfaction, staff engagement, operations, investment decisions, risk, and to ensure requisite governance, control and compliance.
Key Accountabilities
The role holder is responsible for the strategic direction of both Swiss and Middle East franchise as well as the growth and development of the EME Investments business, translating the strategic mandate into both financial and performance commitments in a sustainable manner. This will include the oversight and delivery of Strategic Investment Programmes to support the growth of the franchise and the achievement of the financial plan.
The role holder will lead local discretionary portfolio management teams, investment advisory teams, third party product teams and service origination teams to suit the demands of local clients.
In conjunction with partners in operational Risk and Compliance, the role holder will ensure adequate controls are in place to minimise and mitigate operational and client risks. This will include the design and implementation of effective systems of control. This should include a clear organisation structure, formal system of delegations of authority and accountability and a framework of supervision.
In addition, the role holder will lead, motivate, and develop talent within, ensuring individuals have the required knowledge base, skills, qualifications and capability for their role; there is succession and bench strength; provide direction and create a high-performance culture that inspires the team to achieve individual goals that support the business vision.
Stakeholder Management and Leadership
Ensure that all activities and duties are monitored and carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Barclays Operational Risk Framework and internal Barclays Policies and Standards and the external Legal and Regulatory Requirements. This will include management, oversight and adherence to budgets, financial controls and data, compliance with governance and risk policies and procedures and compliance policies, with agreed policies and procedures and appropriate documentation.
Decision-making and Problem Solving
Through function heads, this role holder will direct the activities of investment professionals and work closely with senior investment and risk management staff in other areas of the organisation to develop processes, strategies, products and solutions. Therefore, the role holder will need demonstrable experience in this area and experience for resource allocation, expense development, staffing management, pricing/fee negotiations, product within a large matrix international organisation.
