Laboratory Operations Director

DePuy Synthes is recruiting for a Director of Laboratory Operations for the DePuy Synthes R&D Research and Testing organization. The location of the role could be any of the Research & Development sites supporting the DePuy Synthes businesses. (Raynham MA, West Chester PA, Warsaw IN, Palm Beach Gardens FL, Leeds UK, or Oberdorf, Switzerland)

The Director of Laboratory Operations for the Research & Testing (R&T) organization will manage a team providing world class evidence in partnership with cross functional product development teams to deliver safe, effective, and differentiated MedTech products to our customers using innovative solutions. They will lead the department across all the DePuy Synthes businesses creating a culture of collaboration across the sites and platforms by implementing one global quality system along with a network-based structure that combines local team support with the global network of labs for a multitude of specialties (Tribology/Kinematics, Digital Engineering, Functional Testing, Materials, Biocompatibility & Toxicology).

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Build and drive a culture of accountability and consistency. Ensure all departments within R&T are compliant and adhere to all J&J and external standards or policies including the needs of Environmental, Health, & Safety requirements.
- Drive a team responsible for the logistics of all sites including asset management, project management, scheduling, resource planning, sample ordering and shipping, and training for the overall R&T organization.
- Build and drive a strategy to digitize the laboratory operations and execution to broaden access to data across the organization and improve speed of performing work.
- Lead a team of lab supervisors and technicians to complete and document testing conducted for all DePuy Synthes programs. The team will be responsible for efficiently running all test laboratories through by keeping equipment updated, calibrated, validated, as well as ensuring repairs and preventative maintenance is completed as needed.
- Build and drive a culture of collaboration with cross functional partners. Ensure that Research & Development will have the space and ability to work on test method development or early concept evaluation.
- Build and implement operational strategies for R&T in partnership with other leaders. (Budget, Resources, Governance Process, Communication Plan, Status Updates, Metrics, and Dashboards)
- Develop and mentor talent. Focus on building robust development plans, competency models, internal growth, promotion, and retention of talent.
- Build opportunities for efficiencies in how work can be done, through a continuous improvement demeanor.
- Collaborate and partner with cross functions in Quality, Regulatory and Product Development to help shape policies and work instructions to drive new innovative ways of working.

**Qualifications**
Education**:

- Must hold a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science

**Required**:

- A minimum of 10 years of in a regulated environment is required.
- A minimum of 5 years of supervisory / managerial experience is also required.
- Ability to lead and develop others is required
- A demonstrated ability to influence cross-functional and senior management to impact decision-making is required, as are strong written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to review and critically assess documentation is a must
- 20% travel domestic and international.

- Medical Device experience
- Lean Six Sigma Training
- Agile Project Management
- Degree in an Engineering or Science Field
