The Independent Investigative Mechanism for Myanmar (IIMM) was established by the Human Rights Council in its resolution 39/2, adopted on 27 September 2018. The creation of the Mechanism was welcomed by the General Assembly in its resolution 73/264, adopted on 22 December 2018. This position is located in Geneva, Switzerland within the Collection, Analysis and Sharing Section. This position will report to the Financial Investigator, P-4 and will work closely with other IIMM Investigators, Legal Officers and Analysts.

**Responsibilities**:
Within delegated authority, the Associate Investigator may be responsible for the following duties:

- Assists in conducting investigations of alleged serious international crimes and violations of international law, such as genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes, rape and sexual and gender-based violence, including by undertaking field missions for extended periods of time;
- Participates in a team of investigators and carries out investigative tasks and activities;
- Assists in conducting interviews and obtaining statements; analyzing information, with a particular focus on financial information and its nexus to crimes within the mandate of the IIMM;
- Searches for, gathers and analyzes evidence, including in electronic format;
- Participates in the preparation of investigation reports;
- Works collaboratively and in coordination with colleagues to achieve organizational goals in accordance with standard operating procedures and in compliance with organizational regulations and rules.
- Performs other duties as required.

Education
First-level university degree in law, international law, criminal investigation, police studies or related fields is required. Formal qualifications and/or certifications in criminal investigations (pursuant to a course of study, training and examinations of a state/national law enforcement institution, a national military academy or a federal/national intelligence service training institution, supplemented with professional development courses and/or certifications involving study, training and examinations in investigations) in combination with three additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the first-level university degree.

Work Experience
A minimum of two years of full time progressively responsible experience in investigations is required.

Experience in criminal and/or financial investigations is desirable.

Experience working in a domestic or international investigative, prosecutorial or judicial institution is desirable.

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of a Myanmar language such as Burmese, Chin, Kachin, Rakhine, Rohingya and/or Shan languages is desirable.
