Summer Internship for Chemical Engineering Students

We are an award winning, Swiss top 20 start-up company, that is changing the way we recycle plastic. Founded in 2020, we are a team of more that 10 young, dynamic dedicated entrepreneurs who are committed to solving the plastic problem.
We developed a method to chemically recycle PET plastic to its two chemical components of terephthalic acid and ethylene glycol. The process occurs at room temperature and pressure, using sustainable chemicals, and can handle PET that normally is incinerated or goes to landfill such as mixed plastic waste, coloured plastic and clothing. Selling the resulting chemicals back to industry, the environmentally friendly process has a substantially lower carbon footprint than the chemicals produced from oil, traditionally used in the plastics industry.
We are currently operating and validating our Pre-Demo Pilot Plant based at the UTO site in Uvrier Valais, optimising the process with proof of concept projects, and developing a continuous process that will be the basis of a scaled up commercial size plant currently being designed. This process is being complimented by our laboratory, which assists in the optimisation with lab scale experiments, determining the quality of chemicals produced, and is also actively researching the chemical recycling of all consumer waste plastics such as PP and LDPE/HDPE.
**In this position, you will**:
- Be part of a team of chemical engineers, working in both the laboratory and pilot plant
- Assist the Engineering team run Proof of Concept projects on the Pre-Pilot Demo plant.
- Optimize different unit operations in particular the reactor of depolymerization.
- Improve the current process by designing new treatment units such as purification columns.
**Who you are**:
- You are an ambitious student who is currently enrolled in Chemistry, Materials or Chemical Engineering.
**Moreover, you are**
- A person who can think independently, be well organised and motivated, with the ability to cultivate and develop the role through the internship.
- A proactive team worker with good communication skills as part of small and large teams.
- Passionate about green processes and sustainability with strong background in process design.
- Good knowledge of design and simulation software such as Autcad, Aspen Plus, ProSim.
- Proficient in English (French is a plus).
