Lhc Beam Vacuum Experimental Area Upgrade

**Job Description**:
Following the vacuum work package activities for all the LHC experimental area. In particular, for CMS, ALICE, LHCb and ATLAS the new HL-LHC will induce an important upgrade of the vacuum system.

Working at CERN in the LHC Beam Vacuum Experimental Area Upgrade project, your main activities will include:

- Modelling and designing complex and highly specialised beam vacuum system.
- Carrying out conceptual design phase work, leading the development work needed to validate concepts up to the drafting of the conceptual design specifications and reports.
- Manufacturing, installing, and measuring complex and highly specialised beam vacuum system.
- Defining the required manufacturing methods, seeking new construction techniques and ways of using new materials/components.
- Testing and commissioning complex and highly specialised beam vacuum system.
- Designing test benches and infrastructure required for commissioning.
- Defining test procedures and plans (acceptance tests, QA, QC, acceptance criteria);
- Defining maintenance plans (repairs and modifications) and spare parts policies.

**Who we are looking for**

Eligibility criteria:

- You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
- You have a professional background in Mechanical engineering (or a related field) and have either:

- a **Master's degree with 2 to 6 years** of post-graduation professional experience;
- or a **PhD with no more than 3 years** of post-graduation professional experience.
- You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.

Skills and/or knowledge
- Experience working with design of vacuum assemblies;
- Experience working mechanics;
- Experience working in vacuum domain;
- Experience working with CAD;
- You should have a working knowledge of English or French.

Contract duration: 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.
