In the role of Site HSE Head you will Lead, co-ordinate and drive execution of the HSE strategy and activities for the NTO sites in Basel. You will ensure HSE is integrated into the site operations to achieve consistent and sustained performance and continues improvement in HSE, will manage the provision of expertise and proactive support, ensure standardization, simplification and the integration of HSE into operations. As member of the Site Leadership Team, you will ensure that HSE short and long-term strategies are aligned with site objectives and enables the implementation.

**Your responsibilities include, but not limited to**:

- Is the senior HSE professional with responsibility co-ordination and execution, through the site leadership team, of the HSE strategy, objectives, goals and targets.
- Ensures that the HSE strategy is integrated into the overall site business strategy. Ensures the HSE Strategy is aligned with the long term site objectives
- Ensures conformance to the global HSE framework structure, site guidelines and supporting programs as well as legal compliance are achieved. Supports Novartis HSE conformance reviews and/or legal compliance audits and inspections and visits from Local Authorities.
- Drives implementation of a program of integrated inspections, checks and safety walks at the site. Ensures appropriate accountability is in place to conduct the program.
- Ensures HSE evaluation of projects and processes
- Reports and communicates HSE findings / opportunities for improvement to leadership to ensure that immediate actions or interim risk solutions are taken. Ensures appropriate corrective and preventive actions are implemented.
- Participates in Global / Platform / Cluster / site HSE and cross-functional teams, committees, and task forces. Develops networks and connects with other clusters, sites, functions and/or Global Expert Teams on HSE issues and programs.
- Act as the HSE reference expert on site, provide hands-on support to BDSS associates

**Minimum requirements**

**What you’ll bring to the role**:

- College/university degree in risk management, health & safety management, environmental management or engineering/related field. Additional certificates, such as SUVA or equivalent are a plus.
- At least 5 years of practical experience in chemical and/or pharmaceutical industries.
- At least 5 years of practical experience in HSE field.
- **Fluent (or native) spoken and written professional German and English are a must.** Other foreign languages are a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to influence at all levels without line authority and lead in a highly matrixed, team orientated environment
- Strong technical skills with the ability to explain complex issues and requirements in an easily understandable manner
- Being “hands on”, aware of what is going on in the production facility, expertise to be the first HSE contact for associates, who seek HSE advice
- Compliance orientated with a focus on end-to-end HSE process management.
