Virome analysis for the identification of new and potentially zoonotic viruses in samples from wild birds and other potential reservoir hosts.

Global warming, the global movement of animals and goods and increased contact between wild animals and humans are increasing the risk of the introduction of "new", potentially zoonotic viruses. As the national reference laboratory for viral animal diseases, the IVI uses state-of-the-art technologies to research the viral spectrum, the so-called virome, and to detect emerging viruses that may pose a risk to animal and human health at an early stage.

In this project, samples of wild birds from Ticino, which have potential contact with Asian tiger mosquitoes, will be analyzed for the viral spectrum using next generation sequencing (NGS). Previous laboratory experience is an advantage, but not a requirement.

Are you interested in OneHealth and modern diagnostic methods and would like to participate in the discovery of "new" viruses? Then contact us without obligation for further information.
