The Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research WSL is part of the ETH Domain. Approximately 600 people work on the sustainable use and protection of the environment and on the handling of natural hazards.

The Research Unit Snow and Atmosphere is concerned with the physical properties of the material snow and permafrost, with snow - atmosphere interactions and the role of snow, ice and permafrost in the climate system. Within the ETH-domain large joint initiative project “Speed2Zero”, the research group Snow Processes is offering for **three years** a position as

Scientist “Alpine Renewable Energies - PV and Wind” 70 - 100% (f/m/d)

This position is on applied research, which should result in actionable pathways into a climate-neutral operation of our society. The particular position will address the renewable electricity resources wind and sun and how they could best developped such that landscape aspects and biodiversity pressure are considered. A further aspect is to predict the influence of extreme weather events on the energy system. The position will require ample collaboration within the larger consortium but also with other projects such as the SFOE funded SWEET-EDGE project. You will work with existing and new data sets from automatic measuring stations, remote sensing products and numerical models. Contributing to the development and maintenance of existing models and data platforms is another task in your varied field of activity. In collaboration with project partners you will publish important results in scientific and applied journals.
- You hold a university degree in engineering, natural sciences, physics or meteorology as well as a PhD and have proven expertise in renewable energies and mountain meteorology. A further requirement is knowledge of programming (Python, Matlab, C++) and an interest in applied research. German and English skills as well as experience working in high alpine terrain are required. You bring solid analytical capacities and a good talent for organisation and communication. You enjoy working in a team that operates at the interface between science and practice.
