The Senior Scientist position will be based in the small molecule drug substance labs as part of Manufacturing Science and Technology (MSAT) organization. The position supports a multi-functional team in developing and delivering solutions required to maintain continued supply of Johnson and Johnson innovative medicines. The position primarily supports the Life Cycle Management (LCM) portfolio by planing and performing lab-based activities in support of ongoing manufacturing as well as to proactively address manufacturing issues.
The applicant will be working in close collaboration with our partners in MSAT Innovation and technology department, R&D, quality and our external network.
This individual will have technical leadership and support responsibilities throughout the product life cycle. They will:
- provide organic chemistry expertise and are willing to learn process chemistry,
- leverage the collaboration with multiple partners to develop more cost efficient syntheses of regulatory starting materials,
- develop, plan, and complete lab-based activities, mimicking full scale process performance, performing root cause analysis experiments, use-tests, or reprocess testing/development,
- learn how to transfer sophisticated processes, manufacturing technologies, analytical technologies to multiple sites and other laboratories,
- learn how to use process analytical technology (PAT) data to understand process performance,
- lead or support process capability and quality improvement efforts on new or already marketed products
**Qualifications**:
COMPETENCY (knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience):
- definition of new synthetic routes,
- analysis, interpretation and presentation of data,
- experience with analytical tools (U/HPLC, GC, NMR),
- technical writing for the generation of technical reports,
- use of electronic lab notebook systems and instrument logbooks,
- experience with process analytical technologies (PAT) like FTIR, FBRM, Raman spectroscopy,
- experience with operational responsibilities of a laboratory, including purchasing materials, equipment set up/operation, management of chemicals, which may include controlled substances.
- basic understanding of statistical methods and statistical process control.
- understanding of good manufacturing practices (GMP) is preferred.
- ability to seek out and engage with various partners both globally and on-site.
- laboratory safety practices and response procedures,
Holds a PhD in organic chemistry or has equivalent experience.
Languages:
Proficient in written and spoken English.
Specific systems:
Microsoft Office, Minitab, Lab Note book, Lab systems eg HPLC, GC
Physical requirements/working conditions:
Main location: Schaffhausen
Works in an international environment across different time zones.
Travel: This position requires up to 10 % (domestic and international) travel.
