The Head Transformative Clinical Development Capabilities will build world-class Clinical Development (CD) practices and capabilities across Development Units in Global Drug Development (GDD), that will shape the future of drug development at Novartis and enable the pipeline growth ambitions. You will develop and nurture a world class CD talent base with particular focus on Global Program Clinical Heads (GPCH). You will drive the evolution of the Novartis CD practice to ensure efficiency and innovation at the edge of the industry.
Your key responsibilities:
Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Lead and build a CD community of experienced drug developers and share clinical findings across different phases of drug development & therapeutic areas
- Drive forward capability building of GPCHs and the development and deployment of learning programs in the dimensions of clinical development/drug development expertise and leadership skills.
- Chair the GPCH forum and drive a deep understanding of the core CD and GDD strategy and operations, collect and convey insights from the community, connect GPCHs with functional aspects across Development Units (DU).
- Together with P&O, drive and support a CD Talent strategy to scale talent to the GDD portfolio ambitions and building leadership and skills pipeline for the future.
- Mentor/ coach individual GPCHs as needed
- Drive the right level of GPCH accountability over the clinical programs and support the GPCH selection and project allocation process with a cross GDD perspective
- Continuously drive a progressive Novartis Clinical Development practice and see opportunities for CD practice enhancement or even transformation
- Support adoption of transformative CD approaches or process improvements that emerge from our Clinical Development Excellence and Strategy & Operations
- Work with GDO to establish a seamless continuum between science, strategy, and operations.

**Minimum requirements**
What you’ll bring to the role:
Essential:
- MD qualified and preferably with additional scientific degree.
- 12 years’ experience leading international clinical development programs in the pharmaceutical industry, spanning over the full development cycle.
- Deep technical expertise in the art of clinical development with experience in complex clinical programs.
- Strong awareness of other dimensions of drug development beyond clinical with experience on cross-functional development teams.
- Extensive experience of people leadership, passionate about developing others.
- Strong skills at influencing without formal authority.

- Strong listener, curious about other points of view, and a champion of collaboration.
- Action orientated and can make things happen and exhibits a strong will to inspire change.
- Sees the big picture and projects vision for the future.
