PostDoc in “Interface energy, climate and biodiversity” 80-100% (f/m/d)
- Within the strategic area “Engagement and Dialogue with Society", the ETH Board has funded the Joint Initiative
- **ENGAGE** focusing on an “Evidence-based dialogue on trade-offs in wicked societal problems”. Important societal challenges such as the energy transition, the biodiversity crisis, or sustainable agriculture are complex. Such wicked societal problems require adequate forms of science-policy dialogue that enable the transparent use of the best scientific evidence. The Engage project aims to create a Science-Policy dialogue platform for a science-based discussion of complex trade-offs related to pressing societal problems amongst relevant stakeholders. Over the period of 2023 to 2025, the consortium of five institutions from the ETH domain (WSL, Eawag, Empa, EPFL, ETHZ) and Agroscope will develop different tools and structures to facilitate this dialogue.

**You will i**dentify and analyse potential trade-offs in the interface of climate change, energy and biodiversity and identify a suitable case study based on these trade-offs and interactive stakeholder engagement. To achieve this goal, you will do extensive literature search and modelling on how different strategies that aim to solve the energy crisis in the face of climate change will impact biodiversity. This provides the scientific basis for the dialogue and informs the development of a simulation game conducted by the ETH institute Empa. Relevant stakeholders in the field will be defined in interaction with other partners. Organizing workshops and writing publication will be additional tasks. You will work mainly at WSL in Birmensdorf, but regular work at Eawag is mandatory to maximize interaction within the project team.

**You hold** a PhD degree in Biology or Environmental Sciences with a strong background in community ecology, data management and statistical analyses and modelling. You have a passion for scientific understanding of biodiversity and excellent skills in interacting with stakeholders and scientists of an interdisciplinary team, spread over several institutions. Furthermore, we expect good knowledge in R programming, a good command of German and English, as well as the capability for scientific paper writing. Conceptual skills, an independent and structured way of working and a demonstrated high level of motivation and team spirit complete your profile.
